BEHIND
THE RECORD.
Two paid, supervised development placements for emerging recording engineers and producers: real sessions, real workflows, alongside experienced practitioners.
Real sessions, real workflows
Up to two agreed, supervised studio sessions at La Vie Studio during ACCESS 001 recordings. You observe and assist with technical work suited to your skills, with guidance and feedback from experienced practitioners, and your supervisor explains the work and safety requirements.
What you'll work on
- Supervised session preparation
- Microphone and signal-flow setup
- Multitrack recording
- Collaborative studio practice
- Professional file and session organisation
Paid for the work you do
£150 for each supervised placement day you actually attend and work, up to two days: £300 if you work both. It is a fee for work done, not for being selected, and it is normally paid within 30 days of the worked session. If illness stops you attending, rescheduling may be possible but isn't guaranteed.
Accurate credits for real work
Where your work merits it, you receive an accurate professional credit for what you actually did, which may include recordings you worked on. We can't promise a set number of credits, because recording assignments vary, and engineering work doesn't create songwriting, master or royalty shares.
Foundations, not mastery
Emerging engineers and producers aged 18 or over with practical recording basics. Extensive professional credits aren't needed. We particularly encourage applicants from under-represented groups and regional communities.
Professional, careful, collaborative
Arrive on time, follow instructions, work respectfully with artists, look after equipment, and keep unreleased music, files and artist information confidential: nothing is shared, uploaded or used in a portfolio without permission. Tell us early if you can't attend.
Selected engineers accept and sign a short placement agreement online within 30 calendar days of the offer. It is a paid development placement, not a promise of future work. Sharing your experience on social media is welcome, never required.
Placement dates: To be confirmed..
A separate application
Engineers apply through their own short application, with Stage 1 and Stage 2 like the artist programme. We look for practical recording basics, how much you would benefit from supervised professional sessions, and a respectful, collaborative approach in a shared studio.
